Lakefront Trail Renovation Project

Survey | Illinois | Back

Challenge

In 2016, the City of Chicago made the commitment to separate bike and pedestrian paths along the entire length of the Chicago Lakefront Trail. The city solicited opinions and information on ways to make the trail more user-friendly and most importantly – how to make the trail as safe as possible.

Solution

The Lakefront Trail project was completed in three phases, delivering two lanes in each direction for 18.5 miles. The new trail can accommodate 100,000 users per day, which includes both bike enthusiasts and pedestrians. The trail stretches from Ardmore Avenue to 71st Street.
